AFGC continues to expand!! Within one year, from October of 2001 to September of this year, three new scientists are being added to AFGC staff. High level of activities has lead to the need for a bigger staff.
With this expansion, AFGC will have even greater expertise in quantitative genetics, biometry, breeding systems, and reproduction technologies to meet the challenge of the rapid growth of aquacultural industry.
 Cand. scient. Ingunn Thorland started on the 1st of October, 2001. She has her background from the Agriculture University of Norway, where she just completed her Master's degree in Biodiversity - genetics. Ms. Thorland is located at Sunndalsøra, Norway.
Dr. scient. Jørn Thodesen started the 1st of February. Immidiately prior to his AFGC employment, he was working for the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) in Malaysia. His doctoral degree was also from the Agriculture University of Norway at Ås, and Dr.Thodesen is located at Ås, Norway.
Prof. dr. scient. Ivan L. Mao will start on the first of September 2002. Professor Mao is a livestock breeder, quantitative geneticist and biometrican, who has 30 years of experience in applied research and development for livestock improvement. He was Professor at Michigan State University, but for the past three years has been a Senior Research Scientist and Professor at the Danish Institute of Agricultural Science. Professor Mao will be located at Orlando, Florida, U.S. and at Sunndalsøra, Norway. |
